CPD Points are not the reason we should be doing CPD!

I’ve had a few people ask me lately why I don’t accredit my radiology courses for CPD points. Yes it’s true, I have gone against the grain, but here is why.

Firstly, I will remind you that you still can claim CPD points for my courses; just log the hours you spent on it. Simple! And logging our hours this is (unfortunately) mandatory, so we have to comply for registration purposes.

Secondly, I do not teach and train other radiographers so they can claim points. I do it so they become BETTER AT THEIR JOB.

So that they can provide better care for their patients.

Healthcare has gone so far down the rabbit hole of accreditation, certification, standardisation, protocols and guidelines that we’ve lost our individual motivation and responsibility to take charge of our career. We assume that if we fall within the guidelines, if we are ticking the bare minimum boxes, then we are all good.

But this leads to mediocrity. Complacency. It doesn’t DRIVE us to be better at what we do. And that is why I don’t worry about CPD Points per se. I already know that I’m committed to do the best job I can. And I hope everyone reading this is too!
